Best Practices

We implement innovative educational approaches to ensure our students receive a world-class education and preparation for their careers.

Student mentoring system

At CED, each student is assigned with a proctor who also acts as mentor for the ward. An efficient mentor-mentee system is followed, where the students regularly meet the mentor for any concerns and queries regarding their academic progress.

Experiential learning through NIE-TLC

Experiential learning is encouraged at CED, the students are motivated to carry out substantial amounts of course contents through experiential learning following the guidelines of NIE-TLC. In particular the students at CED are exposed to real-world scenarios of the construction industry through site visits, mini/minor projects, guest lectures through resource persons from industry.

Choice based elective program

NIE and CED follows the NEP system where the students are exposed to elective courses in their programme. In CED, the students are exposed to choice based electives right from their first year through ETC/ELC/PLC courses. In higher semester’s the students have open-electives which are inter-disciplinary in nature, they are also exposed to professional elective courses with a freedom of selective courses of their choice.

Moodle usage for online education and topic session delivery

NIE and CED has provided access to faculty and students to utilize the LMS Moodle platform. Through Moodle faculty will share relevant information of the course such as study materials, online resource links, educational video lecture contents. The course wise and topic wise contents are made available for students on this platform and the progress of students are also evaluated through quiz in Moodle.

Examination reforms for smoother process

At CED, the guidelines framed by Office of Dean(AA) and COE are thoroughly followed for smooth conduction of both CIE and SEE evaluation. The timely instructions from the above mentioned are formally circulated to the students and also the mentors/proctors will guide the student for a smoother evaluation process.

Campus wide license of Turnitin and MATLAB

The students at CED have access to utilize Turnitin tool, which helps the students in their research work for thorough plagiarism checking for their research papers before submitting them to Journals or Conferences. The students also have access to academic license for various analysis tools and software packages such as MATLAB which are essential to carry out their research works.

Promotion of Digital Learning through NPTEL, Coursera

The Students at NIE and CED are encouraged to utilize digital learning through platforms such as NPTEL and Coursera. Students at NIE have access to courses from Coursera, they are motivated and encouraged to complete these courses and the progress of their course is monitored by concerned coordinator’s. The students are also motivated to complete NPTEL courses through MOOC as part of their curriculum.
