PHYSICAL EDUCATION AND SPORTS

Besides imparting excellent technical knowledge to the students, the NIE encourages co-curricular activities in the field of sports and culture. In fact, the ideals of the founders that sports should be a part of engineering education has been maintained. Thus, NIE has produced state, zonal and national level sportsmen. For instance, Sri.E.A.S.Prasanna (renowned off-spinner), Mr.K.R.Parthasarthy and Mr.D.M.Engineer (Ranji Trophy players) Mr.Anthony.W.Chacko, Srivivas Prasad.P and Mr.Ashwin.S.Narayan (State cricket players under the age group of 23-25), Mr.S.Narasimharajan and K.Rajgopal (Basket Ball players who represented in Asian Games), Mr.R.Natarajan, Mr.S.N.Venkata Rao, and Ekalavya awardee Mr.Dhruva Kumar (Star of India ball badminton players), Miss. Pavana (kho-kho player who played in Russia), Mr.D.Vasanth Madhav and Mr.Derek D'sa (State Tennis players) and Ms.C.V.Jyotsna (State Swimmer), Mr.Arvind.K, State Roller skater who got the Ekalvya Award for 1999-2000, Mr. Arun Maribashetty, National Champion in Equestrian 2003, Mr.Vageesh M.S. selected to represent Combined Universities Cricket Team in VIZZU Trophy have won laurels for themselves and brought glory to the Institution.

At present we are VTU Champions in Table Tennis and Runners in Cricket, Tennis and Swimming.

Hi-Tech Ultra Modern Fitness Centre in a very spacious Hall with a cost of Rs.6 lakhs has been installed for the use of NIE staff and students.

A vast land has been provided for games like Cricket, Basket Ball, Ball Badminton and Kho-Kho. There are also facilities for indoor games like Table Tennis, Chess and Carrom. The NIE has been conducting state level tournaments for students and staff in different sports every year.

Other than the facilities for indoor and outdoor games, reading room, television sets, refreshment centre and HAM facilities are provided in the campus. Every year, students conduct various cultural programmes including the famous TechNIEks, a State level youth meet. They also bring out Mysore Engineer, the annual magazine of NIE, in which scientific, technical and other interesting articles in English and Kannada and drawing contributed by the students and staff are published. Blood donation and other service-oriented programmes are regularly conducted by the students and staff.
