Department of Industrial and Production Engineering
The Industrial and Production Engineering course was initially introduced in 1981 in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. However, realizing the importance of Production Engineering, a separate Department was set up in 1985 with the primary objective of carrying out teaching and research in the board areas of production with specialization in Metal Cutting, Machine Tools, Metrology, CAD-CAM, Robotics, Industrial Engineering, Management, Finance and Quality Control. FacilitiesThe Department has a Library of its own with over 600 titles on various Production & Industrial Engg. Topics. The Department has a well equipped Metrology Lab with sophisticated instruments like NIKON Measuroscope, Digimatic Calipers, Universal Gear Tester, Perthometer, Profile Projector, Alignment Telescope, etc. It has an Industrial Engineering Lab. with facilities to conduct test on Tread Mill, Ergometer. The Machine Tool Lab. is equipped with Instruments to measure, Cutting Forces with a Lathe Tool Dynamometer, Drilling Dynamometer & Temperature Measurements, etc. It has a Computer Lab of its own and has softwares like NISA, UGS, and Auto Cad Version 1.4. Recently it has added Hydraulic & Pneumatic Control Lab with SCADA Software, under its modernization of Lab Programme. It also has Microprocessor Training kit. The Department's major research areas are Metal Cutting, Machine Tool, CAD-CAM and Quality Control. The students have taken up projects in ADA, NAL, ISRO, HMT, CMTI and BEML, and some of the projects include design and development of application based softwares required for those organisations. The Department regularly conducts short-term courses, Workshops and National Seminars on current topics. |
