Department of civil engineering is the first department to be set up at NIE. Right from the inception the department provided high quality value based education to the students. The students of the department have consistently bagged the ranks at the university level every year. The department hence boasts of a huge list of highly acclaimed alumni to its credit.
All the labs of the department are well equipped. The World Bank grant under TEQIP diligently used to enhance the facilities of different laboratories. At the department a number of programmes are conducted wherein student’s participation is encouraged. NIE Golden Jubilee-TRFI endowment lecture is an annual event at the department.
The department has made focused effort in carrying out research activity in the field of structural engineering related to masonry, fire resistance and reinforced concrete. There is significant research activity taking place in the field of water resources and geotechnical engineering.
In addition to the regular academic activity, the department also offers its services in the form of consultancy and testing to various departmental and private agencies. The quality of services provided by the department is well acknowledged in the professional field. The department has to its credit a number of major sponsored projects like water quality analysis for the Mysore taluk, social audit works related Hirekatte Voddu project. The entire design and construction of the golden jubilee lecture theatre complex was taken up by the Civil Engineering Department. The structural design of the ongoing project of sports complex is provided by the Civil Engineering Department.
The department has taken up several research projects funded by KSCST/UGC/AICTE. Presently, 3 projects funded by UGC/AICTE are under progress.
